Studying abroad is both a nerve-wracking and exciting time. Moving to a foreign country to attend college or university doesn’t mean you have to lose touch with friends and family however.

Studying abroad is both a nerve-wracking and exciting time. Moving to a foreign country to attend college or university doesn’t mean you have to lose touch with friends and family however. Thankfully there are lots of different means for students to stay up-to-date with goings-on back home as well as letting loved ones know all about their university experience on a daily basis.

For many students, money can be an issue. Unless enrolled in a scholarship program, many people can find studying abroad especially costly so finding ways of keeping in touch for cheap are particularly popular. VoIP (voice over internet protocol) systems such as Skype are often free to use dependent on which packages you use and also allow callers to activate a webcam if need be.

Although VoIP requires a consistent internet connection and access to a laptop, this is perhaps one of the cheapest ways for people to keep in touch when studying abroad.

Alternatively, some students may prefer to keep in touch via the use of social media and networking platforms such as Facebook or Twitter. Updating friends and family in bite-sized chunks is convenient and easy to do. Furthermore, programs such as Facebook allow for an IM (instant messaging) feature which provides the opportunity to engage in fast-paced, online conversations. What’s more, by uploading content online to social networking platforms or perhaps even a blog, students can also engage family and friends with various types of multimedia such as photographs and videos of their university experience.

Finally, for some students the experience of studying abroad can also carry something of an emotional strain and as the dreaded pangs of home sickness set in sometimes there’s nothing better than a phone call to mum, dad or a best friend back home.

If internet access isn’t an option or if social media is too public a platform, many students will opt to make an international call back home. Thankfully cheap international calls are in abundance and there are plenty of providers that can allow callers to make heavily discounted calls at any time of day without a limit on how long the conversation lasts.

Studying abroad is an exciting time. Don’t forget to share your memories with family and friends back home by keeping in touch during your time abroad.

Article by Robert Gagau

Preparing for the NCLEX is something that you should definitely plan ahead for and get started on, the sooner the better (of course, within reason).

If you are taking it for the first time and are US based, your chances of passing are, in general, around 85%, which means that you should do your best to pass considering how important it is to your career as a nurse.

To do so, you should remember how the NCLEX test questions work. They are given by a computer and are adaptive, meaning they become harder if you do well and easier if you do poorly. But that’s not what makes it a somewhat challenging test.

The NCLEX focuses on applications and analysis of topics, not just whether you know something. For instance, on a typical test you may encounter a question, “What is a side effect of Warfarin?” and then have four options.

On the NCLEX, you are more likely to be asked, “A patient was started on Warfarin. Which of the following requires the most attention?” and then be given four options like, Lightheadedness and shortness of breath and Dry, occasional cough.

This checks to see if you know the side effects of the med and how they then show in a patient.

To prepare for this, you need to do two things. First, learn the material. A lot of it you may know already, but it often makes sense to buy study guides and intensely review and learn the important facts.

One of many things to remember are the important lab values.Secondly, you need to do a lot of practice questions. It’s really the only way to get used to the test style and format.

In studying, you should go over the main topics covered by the NCLEX and make sure you’re strong in them. Remember, that the NCLEX does not test for what you do in real life, but rather what should ideally be done.

Sometimes the official nursing standard approach for something is different from what you might do in reality. Also, as the exam date approaches, it makes sense to take some practice tests so that you get used to the test as a whole.

Those are some basic ideas how to study for the NCLEX exam, but whatever works for you, works.

It’s important to realize several things about the NCLEX. First, the adaptive nature of the test. It responds to you as you take it so that on average, you are getting only 50% of questions right.

This means that you can’t become complacent. If you’re doing very well, you’ll still be missing half the questions asked, and the same if you’re doing poorly.

Second, the test is very different from what you may be used to. Like many tests, it is multiple choice, with four answer choices. What distinguishes the NCLEX, is that it generally tests for applications of concepts, not whether you know something.

The reason is that they assume you know the facts in general or you wouldn’t be taking the exam. What does that mean?

Basically, questions tend to ask if you can apply your knowledge to real world situations. It won’t ask, for instance, what a common complication of knee surgery is, it’ll ask what symptoms would indicate a complication from knee surgery.

So you really need to get in a decent amount of practice questions in so that you are comfortable with those types of questions. The more you do, and the longer before the exam that you start, the better (of course, assuming you aren’t starting 3 years in advance).

Article by Nancy Rose

So you’ve decided to take the CPC exam. But remember that it’s not that easy to crack this exam. There are various places you can go to in order to prepare yourself for the exam. Here are some study tips for CPC exam 2010. The AAPC website is a good resource if you’ve decided to take on the CPC exam. But since the site is so huge, you might just miss some of the cool resources they have for aspiring CPCs. Firstly, it’s very important that you familiarize yourself with the AAPC website. It’s also helpful to talk to coders who have successfully cleared the exam, but the disadvantage here is that some might have cleared the exam many years ago. And since the test has changed over the years, the AAPC site is your best bet. * Click here for all the topic areas the exam covers. From each area listed, you can expect five to ten questions. * Secondly, here’s the list of approved manuals you can take into the exam. Since the exam is ‘open book’, you can take coding manuals into the testing room. But certain editions are not allowed as they contain too much extra information that you’ll be tested on. They are listed here on the AAPC site. * Tabs may be inserted, taped, glued, or stapled in the manuals as long as the obvious intent of the tab is to earmark a page with words or numbers, not supplement information in the book, according to this CPC FAQ page. Tip: Many CPC-test takers find it helpful to tab parts of the manuals they may not use in their everyday coding jobs. For instance, the anatomical diagrams near the beginning of your CPC manual or the neoplasm table in your ICD-9 manual can very helpful if you run across an anatomy or terminology question that is bogging you down.

Find a bible believing church and become it’s newest member.

Attend worship on a regular basis. As you continue to attend worship, your faith will be developed and become stronger. The enemy will see that you are serious about your new found faith and do whatever it may take to stay strong.

As mentioned above, it is imperative to join a church. Many churches if not all, offer a Bible study group. Learning the bible study best practices is important. This is something that as a novice believer, will become extremely beneficial to you.

Not only will it make you stronger, but it will also teach you about your faith and the Bible. You will encounter other like minded believers to draw strength from as well. Speaking of Bible study, read the word on your own each and every day. It does not have to be a large amount, just a few verses daily will bring you closer to God. It is by far better to understand a few verses, than to totally not understand an entire book because you read it too quickly and haphazardly.

To truly be sorry means to understand that if you do not repent, you are turning away from the Lord. To repent is not done as a passing statement, fleeting thought, or with a closed heart. You must completely understand that your past way of life is just that, in the past. From this day forward, God will forgive you and you will begin a Christian walk.

Also make an immediate plan to be baptized in water.

This is a symbolic move symbolizing the washing away of all our sins and turning our heart to God.Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, and all his followers are expected to do the same. This is an indescribable moment in any Christian’s life, novice or seasoned in their walk.

The strength that the Lord provides you during this moment will make all the difference in battling the work of the enemy.

Don’t think about this.If you have admitted you are a sinner, repented your sins to God, and joined a church and are reading the word, you need to do this.It is something that will make all the difference in your faith and in your life.
