The Centre for Continuing Education and Special Programmes (CCS) of the University of Macau is committed to the principle that education is a lifelong process. The Centre's particular area of action is in adult education and continuing high er education. The CCS has a demonstrated ability, willingness, and flexibility to tailor its programs and courses to suit audiences of different sizes, both corporate and individual.

The present document aims to introduce the Centre for Continuing Education and Special Programmes and the many services that it can provide, along with a short selected review of the activities undertaken by the CCS over the past six years (1993-1998).

The Centre was created in late 1992 with the clear mandate of developing, coordinating, and carrying out continuing education activities at University of Macau. The CCS has no permanent teaching staff, its courses are taught by trainers, primarily on a "per course" basis, recruited from the faculty and administrative staff of the University of Macau, and, whenever required, from other institutions or professional associations. Flexibility is one of the great CCS strengths. Also, the course offerings are carefully selected to address the needs in Macau in the areas of adult education, continuing education, and, continuing higher education. In addition, some of the CCS programs are designed to provide supplemental training t hat can be beneficial to one's career or personal enrichment.

The future outlook of our Centre will aim at more close cooperation with the large organizations and professional bodies in Macau and overseas. Meanwhile, we will be committed to working with China and overseas countries as a leader of continuing education with the strong support of the administration and academics of the University of Macau.
